Question on : Do you think itย
The only time "last minute" flights are cheaper is when there is a price war on. Otherwise, leaving your flights to the last minute invariably means all the cheap seats have gone, and you are left with only the full-priced seats. As for accommodation, "last minute" bookings are invariably cheaper, except (of course) in peak times/holiday season เน‚ย

Question on : Do you think itย
Usually, it is. But it's better to buy a ticket a few days before the flight rather than the day before because I find that the price drops a few days before the flight, then goes up again when the day draws nearer.

Yes and no, last minute as in a few days/ weeks before you could end up cheaper or not depending on what season you book for. If you literally book at the airport, I've no doubt it would be cheaper because then the airline can fill up the seats they have no other way of filling. I've found the same thing with accomodation, if I rock up on the day and ask for accomodation, so long as it isn't high season or the place is almost fully booked, they're usually willing to give you a discount for staying. I'd also say the super-early bird gets good deals too but like anything, you can buy then find a better deal with sales that come up after the fact. I personally buy in sales or find the best deal. I'm not going to leave things til last mintue if I have to be somewhere at a certain time but if I don't have anyone to meet or any specific place to go, I ask when I'm there.

There is no one answer for these questions! Sometimes airlines get a lot of cancellations suddenly close to their flight departure date - like after a terrorist attack that results in plane crashes or a tour group cancels out at the last minute for some reason. The airline suddenly needs to fill those empty seats and they will go at cheap prices. If your need for an immediate cheap seat and the airline's need to unload one coincide then you will get a good deal. Except for booking flights using frequent flier miles I don't think I have ever booked a flight more than 2 months out. Almost all of the flights I have booked have been within 3 to 5 weeks before leaving and I have received some good prices. Some travelers believe that they will get a good price booking rooms early, this may be true with some expensive places, I don't know because I don't see the need for an expensive hotel - but for cheap places I have got some good prices with a walk-in! It may depend on where you are and what price the rooms are. When I have walked in the door of an economy hotel asking the price for a room I am a real live potential customer right in front of them not just someone checking prices on a website! At the worse they will match previous low price for booking early. Plus I have got some good prices for cheap hotels by offering to stay for a longer duration, especially overseas in Asia!

Question on : Do you think itย
Flights are more affordable the longer out you try and grab some of the bargains. However, accommodation can be much more affordable at the last minute unless you are trying for peak periods.

Question on : Do you think itย
It certainly looks like it! I bought a ticket for my son in January 2009 for a fly to Vienna from Sydney - departing in June for $2.500,00 and after his return I purchase the same flight for my daughter in August departing in six days later for just $1.480,00. The thousand dollars difference is really striking. I always thought it is prudent to buy the tickets in advance.

Question on : Do you think itย
If you are lucky enough to get last minute specials, then you can save a lot, I know people that have signed up for emails for last minute flight specials, but you have to be happy to leave that day (for example). That is great is you want to go home and visit family regularly and want something cheap. However, normally with flights these days, they have so many tickets at a cheap price, when they sell out you have to move up to the next ticket type, and that can often cost $200 more a ticket - so booking last minute normally means you pay more. Accommodation - there are so many places you can stay these days that it is the norm to get a special, even if it is only free breakfast thrown in. Last week I got a stay 3 nights get the 4th free, a saving of 25%, booked 10 days in advance - brilliant.

Question on : Do you think itย
it used to be but that is changing, many of the smaller operating airlines offer a reduced seat once it gets real close to flight day and if there are seats left, they want to fly full, but not often with the bigger boys
